Luke's Stash
Our four year old, Luke, has been stashing items that he's not allowed to have behind his bed. This makes me sad because I've always been able to trust him to be safe and make good choices, but when you start pulling adult scissors, cut up pictures, and batteries from his room you have to wonder... Since it was nap time, I confiscated the items and sent him to bed and took away tv privileges for a day. I am now sitting here pondering the next course of action. I would take tv for a longer since that is something that will make an impression on him, but he's going to his grandparents tomorrow and I don't want to punish them too. We could make him cancel his visit, but we planned this so that he'll be gone while Matt has his vasectomy (yes, that's right - no more kiddos). Matt seems to be worried that Luke might try to wrestle him and cause unnecessary pain and that would most likely occur. Luckily, nap time is allowing me to gather a little perspective and consider a consequence that will help him learn why it's wrong to take things without asking (and hide them). I'll let you know when I have the answer...
